How I Tricked Myself Into Liking Mornings

Let me be honest: I used to loathe mornings. The alarm felt like a betrayal, the sunlight an unwelcome guest. I envied early risers, but I couldn’t relate to them. My mornings were chaotic, groggy, and fueled by caffeine and regret.

But something shifted. Not overnight—but gradually, intentionally, and almost sneakily. I tricked myself into becoming a morning person. And it changed everything.

🌄 The Wake-Up Call (Literally)

It started with one brutal realization: my mornings were setting the tone for my entire day. If I began with stress and resistance, that energy followed me like a shadow. So I asked myself—what if I could make mornings feel like a reward instead of a punishment?

That question became my turning point.

🧠 Rewiring My Mindset

Instead of forcing myself to wake up early, I reframed it. I stopped saying “I have to get up” and started saying “I get to start fresh.” That tiny shift in language made a surprisingly big impact.

I also began associating mornings with things I genuinely enjoyed:

  • A warm cup of camomile tea
  • A playlist that made me feel alive
  • A few pages of a book I loved

Suddenly, mornings weren’t just about productivity—they were about pleasure.

🔄 Creating Rituals, Not Routines

Routines felt rigid. Rituals felt sacred.

I created a morning ritual that felt like a gift to myself:

  • Wake up and stretch with intention
  • Open the window and breathe in the air
  • Write down one thing I was excited about

These weren’t tasks—they were moments. And they made me look forward to waking up.

🌞 Letting Light In—Literally and Emotionally

I started sleeping with my curtains slightly open. That way, the natural light gently nudged me awake. It felt less like an alarm and more like an invitation.

Emotionally, I let light in too. I stopped checking my phone first thing. No doomscrolling. No emails. Just me, my thoughts, and the quiet.

💬 Final Thoughts about Mornings: It Was Never About the Clock

I didn’t become a morning person by changing the time I woke up. I became one by changing how I felt about mornings.

If you’re someone who dreads the sunrise, know this: you don’t have to force it. You can ease into it. You can trick your brain into associating mornings with joy, peace, and possibility.

And when you do? You’ll find that mornings aren’t the enemy—they’re the beginning of everything.
